All Stars Cricket
Darren Brown from Durham County Cricket Club came into school and presented an assembly to our KS1 children. After the assembly the children had a coaching session from Darren and learned cricketing skills, throwing, catching and batting.
Outdoor Geography
Chris from Sc.Out.Ed came into school to work with Y2. We made a compass using natural materials found around our school field, then we tried to follow compass points working in groups. Our favourite part of the afternoon was to toast marshmallows on the fire pit. YUMMY!
Space
Year 2 had a visit about space. Pupils were able to wear visual headsets and travel through space examining planets in virtual reality. It was an enjoyable activity allowing the children to observe moving planets and moons through practical experiences.
Bread Making
Year 2 have been learning about the Great Fire of London and how it started in a baker’s shop in Pudding Lane. As part of their DT topic they learnt how to make bread just like at Pudding Lane. They chose their own flavours from garlic, raisin, cheese or sun dried tomatoes. They then carefully measured all of their ingredients, mixed it together, kneeded it and created their own shapes. Thankfully Mrs Shaw was on hand when we baked our bread so we didn’t have the same problem as London in 1666!
